A Growing Expat Community
Hefei has a small but active and growing international community. Expat groups organise social gatherings, sports and family activities, and there are several companies that attract staff from abroad, making it easier for newcomers to meet people and settle in.
Modern & Affordable Living
The cost of living in Hefei is noticeably lower than in cities such as Shanghai or Beijing. Most teachers are able to rent modern apartments close to shops, cafés and public transport. The city has hospitals with international departments, an expanding metro network and a growing range of international and local restaurants.
Green Spaces and Scenic Parks
Hefei is known for its lakes and green areas. Places such as Swan Lake, Xiaoyaojin Park and Shushan Forest Park offer space for walking, jogging, picnics and family outings. These parks give residents easy access to nature without having to leave the city.

Hefei is well connected by high-speed rail and air. Shanghai can be reached by bullet train in around two hours, and there are regular trains and flights to other major Chinese cities. This makes weekend trips and longer holidays to different parts of China straightforward to plan.
